I am, who am I?
A deeper look into who are as humans, and who we are to become as Children of God.
Genesis 1:26 “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.”
Tselem Elohim.
We were, from the very beginning to be made in the image of God. Tselem, Elohim.
Like many Hebrew words, there is not a perfect English translation that could satisfy the full meaning of the word Tselem. However, most Hebraists will agree that this word, which is used 17 times in scripture is meant to portray an image that has been made as a replica or a shadow of the original.
A replica finds it’s identity in the original, just as a shadow find’s solidity in it’s subject. We are not some empty carbon copy. We were made in His likeness, His similitude. We were created to become His children. Tselem, Elohim. In the image of God.
Corinthians says that “[Christ] is the image of the invisible God”. If Christ is the image of God and we, from the very beginning, were to be made in the image of God, we can conclude that God's original intent was to create us to be. like. Christ. Our identity is to be found in Christ and Christ alone. It has always been that way. God is outside of our concept of time, His redemption was and is and is to come. If we are to ever claim the victory (that we have) over the lies of this world, we must daily discover more about Christ and His character. We must know that we are who He says we are. We must root ourselves in His promises. His word shall be our sword.
We are not defined by where we have been or where we are going. We are not defined by our sin or our shortcomings. We are not defined by our titles, our occupations, our failures or even our successes. We are defined by the Living Word of God.
Let us hunger, let us starve daily to know, love and live the character of Christ. Let us take ahold of that which has been our purpose from the very beginning- to be made like Him. But, how can we expect to run towards this if we do not know who He is?
“The Bible is to me the most precious thing in the world just because it tells me the story of Jesus”.-- George MacDonald
By His grace we are made new, and through faith we have been justified So then, let us continue on, as saints, with excitement and awe. Let us fall madly in love with discovery, let us lay aside our idea of what it means to be “Me” and allow God to show us who we really are. Let us stop being lazy and know, truly know the scriptures.
“Here, then, is the real problem of our negligence. We fail in our duty to study God's Word not so much because it is difficult to understand, not so much because it is dull and boring, but because it is work. Our problem is not a lack of intelligence or a lack of passion. Our problem is that we are lazy." --R. C. Sproul
This next I will be s paralleling the Old and New Testament, discovering for myself, who we are as Humans and who we are as Children of God. I will be posting as often as possible my discoveries and pray that you share with me this sweet journey of self[less]-discovery.
With Love,
J
